Honor your body by listening to it

What can you do today to honor your body? What are you feeding your temple? The fuel you put into your body, as well as your mind, is the fuel that you need to make it through the day. Are you eating healthy foods? Are you thinking
healthy thoughts? Are you energizing your body and mind by being active?

Take inventory and journal for 1 week by tracking what you eat and how it made you feel. Pay attention to and learn to listen to your body. Record any activities or exercise you did and how it made you feel afterwards. Was there any connection with the food you ate and the headache you got? Did that late night snack lead you to waking up with the feeling of shame? Are you beating yourself up and feeling guilty for sneaking those cookies? All six of them? Do you actually stop eating when you are full? Did you get up off the couch and get moving at least once per day?

After one week, identify your unhealthy choices, proportion sizes and activity levels and any connection to any discomfort or even pain signals your body was sending. What were the emotions associated with your choices? What did you do that made you feel good? What left you feeling sluggish? Did you do anything that kicked your energy into high gear? Your body is always talking to you, are you listening?

Continue to journal every week. The things that left you feeling better...do more of those! It can be as simple as that! Adjust your lifestyle according to the feedback you get from your body. You will find when you are loving your body, your temple, by honoring it with healthy choices, not only will you see results (healthier body, skin, hair, nails, etc...) but you will FEEL the results. Your self-esteem will increase, which will affect your level of happiness which can snowball into other areas of your life in a positive way!

Learn to honor and listen to your body. Start today. You deserve it!

What would it take?

What would it take to be a better friend? What would it take to be a better partner or spouse? A better parent? A better employee? A better student? A better lover? A better salesperson? A better person? What would it take to improve the relationships you have with others or even yourself - and are you willing to ask?

Jack Canfield teaches a principle in his book The Success Principles - How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be. Chapter 19, Use Feedback to Your Advantage. One of the topics is "The Most Valuable Question You Will Ever Learn." After Jack teaches us the value of both positive and negative feedback, he goes on to share what this question is...and it's a doozy! Are you ready? Here is the question: On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the quality of our relationship (service/product) during the last week (2 weeks/months/quarter/semester/season)?

He goes on to list other examples from the book On a scale of 1 - 10, how would you rate the meeting we just had? me as a manager? me as a parent? me as a teacher? this class? this meal? my cooking? our sex life? this deal? this book? I think you get the idea! If reading those questions made you cringe, then just wait for the follow up question...Any question you ask of others that gets a response of less than a 10 must be followed up with: What would it take to make it a 10?

Wow! Are you ready to go there? To boldly go where no man has gone before? It takes a lot of guts to ask the first question, but it takes real guts to ask the second question. The kicker is, you must listen with an open mind and heart and be ready to take action to do what it takes! When we learn to productively use feedback, both good and bad, we allow ourselves opportunities to grow as a person to improve our relationship, our product, our service, ourselves!  It's not always easy to put down your defenses and let someone just lay it all on the table. And the key is to not get defensive. You asked, be prepared to do what it takes. That doesn't mean you still can not compromise, but at least the conversation has begun. (Jack Canfield actually asks his wife these questions every Sunday night!) Doing what it takes is going to mean more effort on your part, so if you're not willing to put in the effort, don't ask the questions. But don't sit around and wait for things to improve on their own.

You can even ask these questions of yourself in areas of your life where you are not measuring up to a 10. What can YOU do to make your life an all around 10? Can you imagine your business flowing at the top of the 1-10 scale? a friendship that has that sort of value? your children are happy? your at the top of the sales chart? your body is physically fit? your savings account reflects a number you are satisfied with? your employees love coming to work? your partner is happy and fulfilled?

We all want to be happy in the lives we have created for ourselves. We all desire a happy home life and a happy work environment. Are you willing to take responsibility for the things that you can change? Well, if you want to get from where you are to where you want to be, I ask you - what would it take?

in·ten·tion - noun \in-ˈten(t)-shən\

Picture
1. the thing that you plan to do or achieve : an aim or purpose.
2. a determination to act in a certain way.
3. purpose or attitude towards the effect of one's actions or conduct.
3. what one intends to do or bring about. (to resolve)

I once attended a women's weekend retreat in northern Arizona and one of the activities we did was to write down a Daily Intention for ourselves. I wanted my intention to be powerful in order to overcome recent struggles I was having in my professional life. My intention was not about something I wanted to have or achieve, but it was something I wanted to be. It was something that was missing from my daily life and I knew if I could overcome this behavior it had the potential to be a game changer, not only in my professional but also my personal life.

The Daily Intention I wrote was this: Today I choose to Be fully present and aware and to express gratitude for all that is ~ just as it is.

At the time I was struggling with such busy-ness and trying to be an overachiever, that I was not achieving anything other than being busy. I was missing opportunities that were right in front of my face because I was not in the present, I was always in my head thinking, planning and doing for things and events in the future. I would attend an event or meet with a client and leave the meeting feeling a bit in a fog as to what really even took place. I was thinking of responses to questions that weren't even asked yet, missing the present discussion. I was doing myself a disservice, but what was worse was the disservice I was doing to my clients.

This one little yet powerful intention changed everything. I attached the card I wrote with my intention to my vision board and read it a minimum of twice per day, as that was my regular habit of how I would utilize my vision board. But I found my intention stayed with me throughout my day. I started to practice ways of being fully present. I stopped doing two things at once. At first it was a bit of a struggle, I had to force my mind to come back to present reality. After time I found that as I was drifting off to la-la-land I was able to recognize it and with diligence I was able to snap myself back to reality and the present situation. I found myself making longer, stronger and deeper eye contact with people. I started to listen with my heart, not only my ears. I got out of my head space and opened up my heart space. The shift in energy I felt was such extreme joy and gratitude for each experience I was having. Things actually became more "alive" and my vision (actually off my senses) seemed to intensify. I learned to accept things as is, not how I wished they could be. That acceptance turned into appreciation, gratitude for the moment, the person, the opportunity that was in front of me, without expectations for anything more than what is. It really was an awakening for me!

To help you get clear on your intentions, I believe there is a strong driving force when we focus on the feeling(s) we will experience once we've achieved our intention.Yes, it is nice to have "good intentions" but if you want results, if you really want to see some magic happen, they must be followed up by taking action. All this clarity came to me from the simple act of writing down my intention. What are your intentions? Your intentions guide your actions. Living with intent is a way of recognizing what you want or don't want and then carrying out the actions needed to achieve your goals. Think of something in your life that you would like to change and then write down some powerful words - your intention - that will help you to have or be what it is you want in your life. Our intention creates our reality.
